Blepharitis treatment
Blepharitis treatment (BLEH-fuh-REYE-tis) is needed when you have inflammation of the eyelid. This is closely associated with ocular diseases such as dry eye syndrome. There are two kinds of this ailment… anterior and posterior. Anterior refers to the outside front where the lashes attach to the skin. Dandruff and bacteria are the two main causes of this type of blepharitis. Posterior refers to the inner eyelid (the part that makes contact with the eyeball) and is affected by the oil glands in the eyelid. This type of blepharitis can also be set off by acne rosacea or dandruff.
Aside from dry eye, blepharitis causes can be from allergies, infections or general irritation. It is the most common eye disease.
You know you need blepharitis treatment if the rims of your eyes are red, itchy, irritated, burning/stinging, or if there’s a feeling of a foreign body in them. Loss of eyelashes and sensitivity to light are other symptoms and it is not uncommon for there to be a mucousy discharge. In extreme cases the eyelid may blister and bleed. If this is somethng you are experiencing, you must see your general practitioner immediately. Furthermore extreme cases can also create corneal damage which the body is generally able to repair over time.
The above mentioned symptoms in conjunction with dry eye makes the eye area very uncomfortable. If you wear contact lenses, the onset of blepharitis will make it near impossible to continue usage.
To avoid blepharitis symptoms, it is imperative to keep the eyelids clean, that is, free of particles – whether dandruff particles from the persons head or outside dust particles. This also helps remove the flakes of skin the backetria feed from. Blepharitis treatment involves doing lid scrubs but this process takes commitment and results will only be seen if it is done consistently. Positive results are shown from this, so it’s worth doing. Essentially through this process the rims of the eye are cleared of any clogged oil (from the oil glands) or dust from the air that may have built up during the day. Obviously an anti dandruff shampoo will be in order to prevent tiny flakes of skin from affecting your eyes.
Some facts about blepharitis treatment:
• it is closely associated with dry eye
• it is not contagious
• it mostly affects people with dandruff, dry skin, acne rosacea or people sensitive to pollens or chemical irritants
• it can be set off by the use of make up

• one eye can be worse than the other, but typically both eyes are affected.
• it does not impact vision although an inferior tear film (caused by oil glands blockage) can sometimes cause blurred vision
• people of all ages all races are affected
• the mean age is 50 years old.
Blepharitis treatment can be a bit boring and uninspiring but if your eyelids are responding to the hygienic circumstance that the treatment results in, it is recommended for you to continue.
